Age of the Amberbox 2 - This is soooo coooool!!!!!!

"Can I have 3 volunteers?".. The computer teacher was barely able to complete the question, there where more than 10 volunteers eager to take up any assignment. " 3 are enough" he said and I was the last one in that lot. :-)

" Each one grab one item each from the office" he said. We were in the lower office in no time. The clerk at the typewriter desk had a peculiar look in her eyes. Clearly not happy with the upgraded machines....

And there were these huge amber boxes. Being the weakest of all, I decided upon 'Lifting' the Keyboard;(Also i could fiddle with the keys, before anyone in the class could do it :) ). Finally the system was assembled (dint know the meaning of all the tech words at that time; we just swallowed whatever the instructor told us)...

Then, the magic moment, we were all waiting for... powering on ..... Pin drop silence.. and .... nothing is happening... what's this?

"aaaargh.., no power". A big "ooooh" from the whole class. Disappointment shadowed all faces. Another long wait.

"Beep... BeepBeep.." The pure electronic sound triggered a huge roar in the class. Finally the Monitor came alive. White characters all over the 14 inch screen.. nothing made any sense, but who cares? The instructor had started explaining something, but all were falling in deaf ears. Everyone was staring at the monitor without blinking.

" Take out your note books; lets start writing!!!". He turned off the monitor, and started the never ending lecture. It lasted for another half hour, and to all our disappointment, he wound up the class. Now another 7 days waiting to have a glimpse of the Amberbox...

Age of the Amberbox 1 - Genesis

"Fifty Rupees".. the news spread like wildfire. "After all we would be able to convice dad", sighed us. And then the countdown started for that blissful day when THE SUPERCOOL-ULTRA MODERN-HIGLY ADVANCED machine will be unveiled in the headmaster's room. Yes, finally a computer is getting installed and the computer classes are starting in our school...

The year is 1994 ;am in my 8th standard, beginning of high scool, that feeling of seniors.. those days were really interesting. And when the physics teacher anounced the much awaited computer training, all students went creazy. Till then the "computer" was another TV with fancy buttons and clunky sounds, to most of us. So I's not amazed seeing a half-KM long queue in front of the school office. And the brightness on the face of those who got enrolled, it was huge. Later on when I got the admission slip, I simply could not believe it; finally, I am going to learn the wonder machine...

More than learning, I was more than excited to even touch and feel the system. Who cares for a programming output or fancy coding?...

And finally that day came.... I's really jumping with excitement when i reached school; and for the first time in my school life, I reached the gates even before it was open; so was all other "geeks"...

And then, began the most exciting journey in my life.....

to b contd...
